After his father died, he lived with his uncle. He received education according to Sundanese culture by his uncle, although previously he had knowledge of western culture. In 1899 he moved to Bandung. On January 16, 1904, he founded a school called the Wife's School in Pendopo, Bandung Regency. The school was then moved to Jalan Ciguriang and changed its name to Kaoetamaan Wife School in 1910. In 1912 there were nine schools spread across West Java, then developed into one school per city and district in 1920. In September 1929, the school it was renamed the Raden Dewi School.
He died on 11 September 1947 in Cineam during the war for independence.
